Skateboarders want to get involved!

Ralph from Palmdale- "When you're building a park you don't want to get in contact with a company that has no idea about what they're doing. If you do that you're going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a wasted park. Kids won't come. Let the public come and invite as many skateboards as you can to throw their ideas out there. I'd love to give some input."

Bryon Glennan- Rosamond Foundation President

"Right now the only way to improve our parks is through monies given to the non profit RCSD Foundation. We are working on grants, some of them matching grants, but our goal is to improve the parks even though we don't have any assessments in the community right now to bring in income. We want to redo the play area at Jim Williford Park to make it compliant with the American Disabilities Act. And then maybe start with a skateboard park at a Felsite location."

Two Phase Plan:

Phase 1 is a short term plan which we hope to have done by mid summer of this year where kids can go have a good time and improve their skills.

Phase 2 is the long term plan with the Parks & Recreation to build a big skateboard park at the new Felsite Park location.

Kern County Fire Dept. Captain Don Barnett heads Special Sub-Committee for the Rosamond Foundation.

"We had approximately 25 young adults at a meeting on February 20, 2009, here at RCSD's Board Room with some parents who want to get involved in raising funds for a skateboard park in the Rosamond area."

Click to see live interview. Tuesday morning, December 1, 2009, at 9am local leaders poured cement for Rosamond's first Skateboard/BMX Park at the corner of Eagle Way and Rosamond Boulevard. Bypassing a traditional shovel groundbreaking ceremony, Jack Stewart, Rosamond Community Services District general manager, chose to move on with a project over a year in the making. He started pouring cement. Working together, several Rosamond community groups built this much-needed youth park over the last 14 months. (l-r) Daniel Landsgaard represented Rosamond Rotary Club, Byron Glennan grabbed the chute above for Rosamond Foundation, Kathy Spoor led the pour for RCSD, Gary Miller, represented Southern Kern Unified School District trustees, Jack Stewart - RCSD moved theproject forward. Skateboarders came from Rosamond High School, Zack Platte, Justin Otis, Alex Figueroa.

January 12th, 2010: These are fence post holes that were just recently drilled. The poles will go up later this week and later the fencing will go up along with the skate-board signs that advertisers have already started to buy. Word has it that the skateboard ramps will be here towards the end of January. The March grand opening is still a go.
January 27, 2010: John Sides, Brack Smith and Ryan Becker from RCSD stretch fence on the north side of the new Skateboard/BMX Park at the corner of Eagle Way and Rosamond Boulevard. Jack Stewart, General Manager of the Rosamond Community Services District (RCSD), holds firm to open Rosamond's newest park on March 1, 2010, after school classes let out; approximately 3pm. Ramps built in Joplin, Missouri, should arrive February 8, 2010, if all goes as planned. Installers from ARC (American Ramp Company) will attach each step, ramp or half pipe to the cement slab with RCSD's help. Approximately 30 businesses and organizations are contributing $1,000. each to build the park. These founder names and phone numbers will appear on 4'x6' signs hung on this fence and a similar fence on the west side of the park. Located near one of Rosamond's busiest intersections. Color founder signs show clearly to east or west and north or southbound traffic during daylight hours. Skateboarders and BMX riders will use this facility at their own risk without supervision during daylight hours. RCSD Parks and Recreation Department plans to post a small sign on site that states the ordinance for local skateboard parks.

February 11,2010 The Skateboard ramps are finally here!!! They came all the way from Joplin Missouri. They are ready to be installed this week by the RCSD.
Gary Jones drove all the way from Joplin Missouri to deliver the skateboard ramps. He said that weather was snowy so it took a little while. In fact, it was slow going until he came to California. He's happy to be here and he said that he was happy to be part of the Skateboard Park's development process especially since the youth and the local people have been eagerly awaiting the Jumps.
